Speeses Organic Baby Products

December 5th, 2006

Thanks to my friend Rebecca for turning me on to this great retailer!

The adorable baby products offered by Speeses are everything you could ask for as a responsible consumer - manufactured under Fair Trade Practices and Principles, their cotton is organically grown and handpicked by farmers whose families live biodynamically and receive health care. Once spun, knit and dyed with low-impact dyes, the cotton garments are sewn and printed in a beautiful, sweatshop-free factory in Southern India.

*Sigh* Santa could take a few cues from the idyllic production practices of these guys!

Perfect as a receiving blanket or just after baby’s bath, the hooded towel pictured above is $32 with your choice of ’see-hors, ‘kid, je-’raf or ‘chik.

This cozy lamb jacket with sherpa trim and lamb ears is $40 (angelic kid model not included).

Whatever you choose to take home, in integral component of these Fair Trade products is that the local community benefits from manufacturing.

The local elementary school in the village where speesees is manufactured is called Zari Pada. They have needs from water hand pumps to small shelves and racks for each classroom. $1 from every $100 earned from online Speesees retail orders will go to buy these children various supplies to support a more conducive learning environment.

Christmas is coming! Why not spend your dollars where you know they’ll do the most good!
